"Awful!" - that was the first reaction of the people who visited the presentation when they saw "The Ukrainian Potential"

The sculptor stressed that he was inspired to create this work by his recent travelling around Ukraine. "I was shocked of what I saw: ruins, poverty, a total decay. However on TV the politicians tell us that everything is fine and will be even better. But Ukraine is different. Now you will see the way it looks."

Subject:Луганский скульптор ездил во Флоренцию на биеннале. Хочет вернуться туда за мрамором
Security:Public

Subject:"Peace Express" Killed fly by Barack Obama
Security:Public

The presentation of the new project "Peace Express" took place in the art gallery "Shmatko & sons"

Nicolai Shmatko has presented the international project - the sculptural composition "Peace Express" and also acquainted his guests with new creative works, namely "Three Graces" in marble made by N. Shmatko and "Three Graces" in stone-tinted plaster made by his son Rafael.

N. Shmatko had been working on "Peace Express" for more than one month, but the most difficult thing was to render the idea of this sculpture. The sculptor had to scrutinize thoroughly each of the candidates he wanted to immortalize.

"I decided to make this sculpture in order to evoke a response from these world leaders so that they would pay more attention to the problems of peacekeeping on our planet. I have chosen these politicians surely because they "run the show" in this world" - N. Shmatko said.

The sculptural portraits of the President of the USA - Barack Obama, the President of Russia - Dmitry Medvedev, the Prime-minister of Italy - Silvio Berlusconi, the President of Venezuela - Hugo Chavez and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, the President of the People's Republic of China - Hu Jintao are imaged on the tips of the fingers of a hand in the center of which there is a symbolic globe with a fly transfixed by Barack Obama. >>> see all photos >>>

N. Shmatko appealed to the leaders of the 5 countries with the help of mass media with the proposition to Barack Obama to allocate 5 million dollars for the financing of the statue made of marble "Christ's Appearance to the Apostles" and also "to construct a new city in the centre of which this sculptural composition will be set."

The sculptor suggested Dmitry Medvedev "planning a visit to the gallery and providing help in its "extension".

N. Shmatko offered Hu Jintao to organize an exhibition in China where the sculptor is ready to show more than 100 sculptures and more than 300 canvases. During this exhibition the sculptor "is going to fundraise 1 billion dollars" which he promised to pass to "the distressed provinces of China". The host, in its turn, as N. Shmatko proposed, will have to guarantee the transportation of the collection and to allow 3.000 square meters of exhibition area and the presence of mass media.

Silvio Berlusconi was offered "to be responsible for the expenses of the presentation of N. Shmatko in Florence Biennale 2009 and to take part in the inauguration of Biennale" in which N. Shmatko intends to participate.

Hugo Chavez was offered "to realize a project which would symbolize the people of Venezuela. The sculptor also invited the President to visit the art gallery "Shmatko & Sons".

"With our efforts (in the field of sculpture creation), my sons and I are ready to bring beauty to the Venezuelan people and to offer them new opportunities for tourism," - N. Shmatko said.

Subject:Nicolai Shmatko has presented his new sculpture "Ukrainian Aurora" - Yulia Timoshenko

Nicolai Shmatko has presented his new sculpture "Ukrainian Aurora" and a new sculpture group "Christ's Appearance to the Apostles".

Nicolai Shmatko has presented his new sculpture "Ukrainian Aurora" and a new sculpture group "Christ's Appearance to the Apostles". It has taken 15 years for him to create the project with the Twelve Apostles.

In his sculptures Nicolai Shmatko decided to deviate from the Bible apostles known to us. "In this sculpture there are our contemporaries, people who live near us. Only Jesus Christ is an imaginary person as nobody can pretend to be like him. We can also see Peter, his favourite disciple, doubting Thomas and Judas. Among the known Bible persons I have embodied myself and my sons"- Nicolai Shmatko retells.
look a photo
http://www.kingofmarble-shmatko.com/engver/p1_project_en.html The preliminary cost of this sculpture is 1.5 mln. Euro.

The other sculpture of the Nicolai Shmatko "Ukrainian Aurora" has taken him half a year. He retells about it, "Aurora is a morning star which lights up the road of travelers and wayfarers. I decided to accent attention on this and tried to find a woman who can personify national pathos but I could not for a long time. And finally I found national Ukrainian colouring in Julia Timoshenko, Prime Minister of Ukraine".

Nicolai Shmatko estimates this sculpture in 500 thousand Euro.

The sculptor noted that he is a non-party man and has not any political sympathies to Julia Timoshenko but her image helped him to create our contemporary Aurora.

OK, so, I'm going to the 3 week musical theatre workshop!!!! and of course i am sooo excited!!

BUT.

I have this really irrational fear and anxiety that I will not make any friends and just be an awkward LOSER! and have it ruin my one summer at Interlochen.
As you can see it's my first time, and although I'm not *shy*, I've just had some really bad experiences with summer camps!!

So what are the chances of being "the one loner girl"?? I mean I talk to people and stuff and I'm fun but like....GAH! I'm so ANXIOUS about this!!

so somebody calm my nerves?? this is my one and only stress about camp right now.....

Hi! I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm interested in applying for the Musical Theatre workshop for summer 08....but recently I've gotten really interested in applying for piano.
My question is, how good do you have to be to get in? How good are most people in the program and how much experience do they have? I have a feeling I don't stand a chance AT ALL...I'm fairly advanced for the amount of training I've had, which only amounts to about 2 or 3 years. However I've been playing by ear since age 2, and have taught myself as well if not better than my "teachers" during the time I wasn't in lessons.
anyway. any

I'm a junior and am interested in applying for the visual arts program. Interlochen sounds so incredibly amazing, but I don't know much about it.

I have some questions:

How hard is it to get into the visual art programs? Do I even have a chance?  [if you would like to see some of my work just ask :)]

What are they looking for in a portfolio?

It looks pretttty expensive (for me anyway),  Is it worth it?

Any other helpful info would be greatly appreciated :] thanks.

Subject:questions about admission
Security:Public

hi, i'm a freshman working on an audition to the summer 2008 jazz program. i just have a few questions about admission.

first, what is the acceptance rate for that program? does it go by instrument? if so, what are they for each drums, piano, and trumpet?

second, does anyone have any suggestions for the audition tape? is there anything specific they look for? (mainly for drums)

third, i know that you have to send in an audition tape, but is there also an application? if so, whats on it/what do they ask for?

finally, i'm also interested in the music composition program. it seems very interesting, but they don't have the best description on the website. does anyone know more about this program? what do they look for in that audition?

thanks soo much!!

After two happy summers each at Interlochen, my brother and I are no longer returning. I was cleaning my room today, and I found the bin full of our uniforms. I'm going into college in the fall and could use some cash, so I figured I'd try and sell what I have to summer of '07 campers.

This is sort of a weird list, but here we go anyway.

- 8 pairs of 36” waist 100% cotton navy blue boys shorts from Scholarshop. Regulation belt loops plus cargo pockets.

- 1 medium unisex Interlochen white polo (with logo) from Scholarshop. Hardly ever worn.

- 3 pairs size 14 (more like a 12) liz Claiborne 100% cotton wrinkle free womens shorts (meet Interlochen female shorts regulation). You can cuff the legs to make them shorter, which is nice if you want to look "Interlochen chic".

- 2 pairs size 12 short leg (more like a 10) Liz Claiborne 100% cotton wrinkle free navy blue pants.

What we're selling is only what was in really good condition. To be super honest they do have some minimal fading from the good ol' Interlochen laundry, but you'll look the same as everyone else, trust me. The clothes look good enough to wear in everyday life, but we can't 'cause they're uniforms and that might be strange :) If you're interested, leave me a comment and I can take some pictures for you.

Thanks guys! I hope everyone has a terrific summer.

Hi guys :) I am sitting here and looking at planetickets for my trip, and I started to wonder which date I should arrieve and leave. Should I arrieve on the day before the sessions start and the day after the sessions end? I am in the poetry program july 15th to the 6th august, so should I arrieve the 15th or the 14th? I am just a bit confused :) Thanks for the help!

Hello there. I just got accepted into the Narrative and Verse Program for this summer. I'm also aware that the price is a bit high, but I'm willing to pay if it's worth it. I was wondering if anyone has been in the creative writing program at interlochen and can comment on the general structure of the program. Also, what is the admittance rate to the program, and who teaches the classes? Thanks.

Hi everyone. I applied to the Wind Ensemble and Orchestral summer program for Interlochen this year on flute. I've never been before, and I want to go SO badly after seeing the website and reading what people write here. Does anyone remember how good Interlochen is about letting us know acceptance/rejection by mid-April?

Thanks! I hope I can see some of you this summer!

Mood: okay

Hi! My name is Jess and I'm a junior. I really want to apply to Interlochen for the HS musical theatre production- I know it's very selective, but I can never find any programs that actually put on productions during the summer. I am admittedly very nervous about submitting an audition tape, so I was hoping to try and clear some things up before I went through with it. For my upbeat song, I was thinking of doing "Here I Am" from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels- I've always felt very comfortable with that piece and I know it's a good choice for my voice (no rhyme intended), but do you think the song itself is a suitable audition piece? I still don't know what to do for the ballad- I was thinking maybe "I'll Know" from Guys & Dolls, but I really haven't thought about it yet. Also, should I get someone to play the piano for me and not do it a capella?

Anyway, the monologue is really what kills me- I can never find any. Should I take one from a play, or from a monologue/audition book? Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm also not sure if it should be comedic or dramatic... Personally, I do better with comedic monologues, but if it's not the best choice I'd rather do a dramatic one.

Lastly, I pretty much suck at dancing. I can do all right with choreographed dancing, but I'm really not very flexible. The only thing I know is a little bit of tap- really not much. I know how to do shuffles and falaps and stuff, and I can do a time step with practice. Should I even bother with the dancing part?

Thanks for anyone who can help me out :).

- Jess

I was wondering if anyone has been to Interlochen's Creative Writing Summer Program. I'm trying to get in for Narrative and verse, and I was wondering what Interlochen is really looking for in terms of style and other aspects of writing, aside from the 2 short stories and 5-7 poems.

Also, $3400 is a bit expensive, but I'm willing to pay the price if it's worth it...so any reviews on teh writing program would be great.

Hello all. I'm a Senior in high school, and I was thinking of auditioning for the high school wind ensemble and orchestra program at Interlochen. Any idea how selective this program is exactly for flute? How about scholarships? Thanks a ton!

Hey :)

I really want to go to Interlochen arts camp in summer 2007 under creative writing. First of all, I am from Denmark, which makes it all a bit more difficult, but I was wondering if there was a lot of international students there? And I have been wondering if its hard to get in? I can see I have to write 5-7 poems, and 2 short stories if I want to go under Narrative and verse, and I am nervous that I cant get in.

Hope you will answer my questions :) Thanks.

I just wanted to know if it was a good program or not, what the teachers were like etc. You know, so i can see if the $5670 tuition is worth it. Thats a lot of money..i'm going to need some major financial aid and maybe sell a kidney to cover it. any feedback would be very much appriciated..
